The Robert Packer Hospital Simulation & Advanced Skills Institute (SASI) offers an invaluable state-of-the art multidisciplinary training facility supporting physicians, medical residents, surgical residents, nurses, ancillary staff, and students with the goal of technical expertise and quality patient care.
SASI provides a safe learning environment outside of the clinical setting for staff to gain proficiency with skills and techniques while fostering interprofessional collaboration in education and training. This complements traditional methodology by offering realistic experiences prior to a patient encounter. SASI hosts lectures, laboratory sessions and hands on training.
Currently, SASI supports staff anesthesiology, cardiology, emergency medicine, family practice, gastroenterology, general surgery, internal medicine, nursing staff, orthopedic surgery, pulmonology, and respiratory therapy. Training topics range from basic to advanced, incorporating didactic sessions, task trainers, custom designed skills stations, animal labs and human cadaveric procedures.
Facilities:
The institute provides staff and visitors with a safe learning environment. Each area flexes to best suit learning objectives. The largest space is equipped with 80” interactive monitors, which can be divided into two independent learning areas. Additional training rooms house high, medium, and low fidelity simulators and training equipment. Staff are granted access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- The simulation room houses a scrub sink to accommodate surgical asepsis training. Equipped with audio and video capabilities, the room can be configured for multi-specialty patient simulation allowing staff to conduct interventions as they would in patient care areas. Live streaming allows for post training debriefing and review of interventions.
- The training rooms are stocked with task trainers, simulators, and clinical equipment.
