April 1, 2021

Guthrie Cortland Radiation Oncology has partnered with Upstate University Radiation Oncology to ensure patients of the Guthrie Cortland Cancer Center receive expert, comprehensive cancer care, close to home.

The partnership between Guthrie Cortland Radiation Oncology and Upstate University Radiation Oncology offers patients access to a team of highly trained radiation oncologists. Through Guthrie and Upstate provider collaboration, years of combined experience, and one-on-one compassionate care, patients and their loved ones can expect an exceptional health care experience.

“We are very proud to enter into this partnership with Upstate, which strengthens our ability to deliver community-based cancer care," said Dr. Thomas Gergel, Chief of Radiation Oncology at Guthrie. “By sharing knowledge, collaborating on patient care, and joining forces to treat complex cases, patients in the Cortland area will gain access to even better cancer care - close to home.”

“We look forward to partnering with Guthrie to offer excellent cancer care to patients in the Cortland area,” said Dr. Jeffrey Bogart, Department Chair of Radiation Oncology and Interim Director of the Upstate Cancer Center. “Radiation therapy requires frequent trips for treatment and this new partnership will enable patients to remain close to home while receiving treatment from our team of experts.”

The new partnership will play a vital role as Guthrie prepares to open a new cancer care facility this summer. The new 10,825 square foot Guthrie Cortland Cancer Center will revolutionize cancer care in the region by improving the patient experience and providing expert cancer care and coordinated services in one location. The $10.6 million facility will bring together radiation and medical oncology with a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator.
