Guthrie Recognizes Donate Life Month and CORE Partnership

April is National Donate Life Month, and Guthrie is proud to celebrate its continued partnership with CORE, the Center for Organ Recovery & Education.
Today, Guthrie leaders joined with CORE to raise the Donate Life Flag on the campus of Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre to shine a light on the continued need for organ, tissue and cornea donors.
Currently, 100,000 individuals are awaiting a donor for a life-saving transplant, with a new name added to the list every 10 minutes.
During today’s event, we heard from Guthrie leaders and multiple transplant recipients, who spoke to the life they have because of the selflessness of another. As an active partner with CORE, Guthrie has a team in place that facilitates organ donation, should that be the wish of the deceased or their family members.
“We fight to save lives, but we also offer solace to grieving families, helping them find comfort in knowing their loved one's legacy continues through donation,” said William Osterman, VP of Nursing, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.
“Today, we are honoring the donors who have given the gift of hope, and we are acknowledging the lives that have been transformed through their generosity,” said Joseph Sawyer, SVP, President, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus and Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
We encourage individuals and families to have these difficult discussions before an emergency or major illness happens or consider signing up to be a living donor. To register, please visit registerme.org.
"Donate Life Month is a tribute to the selfless donors and their families whose generous decision to give the gift of life has brought hope and healing to those awaiting a transplant and transplant recipients. I am happy to partner with Robert Packer Hospital on this initiative." said Christie Ryan, Director of Professional Services and Hospital Development, CORE.
