What is Nuclear Medicine?
Nuclear medicine uses radiopharmaceuticals to take pictures of your body from the inside out. During a nuclear medicine procedure, you will be injected with, or asked to eat or drink, a small amount of radioactive material, which produces X-rays from inside your body. The amount of radiation used is very small and it goes away to nothing in a short amount of time, eliminated through your urine. Nuclear medicine pictures are special because in addition to showing the anatomy of the body they also show body function. When you schedule a nuclear medicine procedure, we will give you complete instructions to follow to make sure your appointment is successful.
