Program Director

Zia Shah, MDZia Shah, MD

Dr. Zia Shah is a distinguished medical professional, board-certified by ABIM in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, and Sleep Disorders.
An alumnus of King Edward Medical University in Pakistan, Dr. Shah's training and practice span three continents, including the U.K. and the U.S.A.. He undertook his Internal Medicine training at United Health Services, Binghamton, N.Y., from 1989 to 1992. Following this, he completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Buffalo University from 1992 to 1995.
Dr. Shah has always been driven by a career that seamlessly integrates patient care with medical education. He is passionate about training physicians and specialists in the Southern Tier. In addition to his involvement in other teaching programs at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, he eagerly anticipates the commencement of the Internal Medicine residency program in July 2023.
An advocate for physician and caregiver wellness, Dr. Shah firmly believes in fostering a healthy and balanced work environment for all health care professionals. His commitment to wellness underscores his overall approach to healthcare, which combines expertise, compassion, and a focus on continuous learning.


Associate Program Director

Lizeth Diaz Ledesma, MD

Dr. Diaz graduated in 2002 from Medical School at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and did Residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx from 2005-2008.

She is board certified in Internal Medicine and has interests in different aspects of medicine, including Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Acute Inpatient Care. 

During her years in practice, she has developed skills working in different settings from underserved communities to tertiary hospitals, and enjoys teaching residents and medical students in the hospital setting.

Recently, she became enthusiastic about the management of obesity as a medical condition and root of multiple other medical problems, not only to look good and feel good but to be a healthier person.  She sees medicine as an opportunity not only to treat but to prevent more problems and complications.

Her hope is to transmit all that knowledge to the new generation of Internists, who will be the future of medicine.

She enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, music (guitar) and crocheting. 


Core Faculty

Lela Adeoshun, DO

Dr. Adeoshun is a hospitalist physician at our Guthrie Lourdes Hospital where she has worked since graduating from Internal Medicine.

She has a passion in teaching and is happy to be part of the Internal Medicine residency program.

Monika Freeland, MDMonika Freeland, MD

Monika Freeland, MD is an internal medicine doctor with Guthrie Lourdes in Vestal, New York and is the director of the Guthrie Lourdes Weight Management Program in Johnson City, N.Y. She provides personalized primary care for conditions that affect adults as they age. She also provides guidance and support for patients on their weight-loss journey.

Dr. Freeland is board certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in Psychology/Neurobiology Specialist which sparked her interest in human behavior, and how biology and psychology play a role in motivation and goal setting. In her experience working as a volunteer suicide hotline counselor, she learned to partner with patients and motivate them for change. 

Dr. Freeland lives in the Binghamton area with her husband, two children, and their family dog. She likes to hike and camp with her family, ride four-wheelers, ice skate, paint, and host family and friends in her home.

Jerry Pudusseri, DOJerry Pudusseri, DO

Dr. Pudusseri is a cardiologist at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. 

He enjoys teaching medical students and residents and is involved in mentorship for guidance through all levels of medical education.

He is board certified in General Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology.

 

Gurdeep Singh, MDGurdeep Singh, MD

Dr. Singh did his Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center- Georgetown University and his Fellowship in Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism from Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center.

He is the dyad leader and lead endocrinologist at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. His passion is to treat and educate patients about various endocrine problems with diabetes and thyroid being his major areas of interest.

He is the director of the research department and chair of continued medical education. He enjoys teaching medical students and residents and guides them through the process of getting research articles published. 

He is serving as an editorial board member and peer reviewer of many scientific journals.

He is an active member of the Endocrine Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Diabetes Association, American College of Physicians, Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research and Sigma Xi.


Program Coordinator

Nicole Mosher

Nicole is a long time resident of Binghamton N.Y. and has been employed by Guthrie Lourdes Hospital for 10 years. She takes great pride in assisting residents and faculty in the Internal Medicine Residency program.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors and reading.
