Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

In addition to completing annual training in diversity, equity and inclusion required of all Guthrie caregivers, pharmacy residents and preceptors have been trained in identifying implicit bias. The program strives to be a meritocracy, in which residents are recruited based on their knowledge, skills, attributes and other characteristics that set them up to be successful residency graduates. This is done without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or genetic information. Residents are selected by a group of current pharmacy residents and faculty that are blinded to key information including name, date of birth. Residency applicants are objectively scored based on their knowledge, skills, attributes, and other criteria aligned with the program's mission and values. This holistic approach has allowed the program to recruit a strong and diverse group of residents, with 100% increase in the number of candidates ranked by the program the first year it was used.

The Guthrie Clinic and Robert Packer Hospital are equal opportunity employers and have consistently been able to recruit diverse faculty and staff to our caregiver roles, despite our rural location.
