Resident Life
The rolling hills and mountains of the Twin Tiers offer unparalleled opportunities to hike, bike, paddle, ski, hunt, fish, or even soar at our local glider airport. Resident physical and mental well-being is a priority at Guthrie, and the region offers an abundance of opportunities to recharge, stay active, and be entertained during downtime.
The four-season climate will keep outdoor enthusiasts busy year-round – with seemingly endless wildlands to explore with hiking and biking trails. In winter, you will find nearby downhill and cross-country skiing as well as snowshoeing, and snowmobile.
The Finger Lakes communities support museums, performing arts, and organized events throughout the year. Iconic names dot the region and include the town of Corning bearing the Fortune 500 Company’s name and showcasing the Corning Museum of Glass and Rockwell Museum. Hosted annually in the Corning area is the Guthrie Wineglass Marathon – recently honored as one of the Top 10 Destination Races in the world and voted Best Marathon in New York State. This event attracts several thousand runners annually, and as the title sponsor, Guthrie caregivers provide support to these athletes in the Medical Tents as they push their limits to complete the race.
Ithaca, home to Cornell University and Ithaca College, sits at the base of Cayuga Lake, the longest Finger Lake. It boasts impressive park and trail systems, breathtaking gorges with waterfalls, and vibrant nightlife and restaurants.

The natural geologic wonder of the 11 Finger Lakes and more than 30 waterfalls is well known not only for its water sport and recreational opportunities but also for the successful vineyards and winemaking industry.
